I’ve started a lot of things on a Monday. Meal plans, step counts, an alarm set for 5:30 that I respected exactly once. None of it stuck, and eventually I stopped expecting it to. I wasn’t lazy. I was just tired of efforts that asked for everything and gave back very little.
So when a friend mentioned, almost in passing, that she’d started doing one small thing each morning, I nearly let it slide right past me. She said it wasn’t a diet thing, more of a timing thing. She didn’t pitch it. She didn’t even sound that excited about it. It just came up, the way small, honest things do.
What stayed with me, honestly, wasn’t the details. It was how unbothered she seemed. No big overhaul, no rules to remember, nothing to cross off a list. Just one small addition to a morning she already had. And she said the first thing she noticed wasn’t her clothes or the mirror. It was her energy, and how much quieter the afternoon cravings got.
I don’t know that it would have landed any other week. But that week, I was listening. And when someone that level-headed mentions feeling a difference before anything else, I’ve learned to at least go and look at the thing properly.
